USC Nepal (unity service cooperation Nepal), a non-profit, non-political and non- governmental organization registered under the Society Registration Act 1977 and affiliated with Social Welfare Council( an organization designated to deal with all national and international non- governmental organizations on behalf of the government ) in Nepal was previously known as USC Canada Nepal. It is functioning in Nepal since 1977. The main focus of this organization is on poverty; basic education and health; sanitation and water supply; forest and environment; gender and informal financing; sustainable agriculture and biodiversity; and institution building and capacity development.
The goal of USC Nepal is to work for creating just and equitable society eliminating all sorts of human made discriminations through mobilization and activation of the target communities from the bottom and influencing the relevant actors to bring down with their support services to the target groups through lobbing, advocacy and networking from the above. Its functional approach is participatory as well as community based and it gives emphasis for local resources mobilization and capacity development of the local people and their institutions. USC Nepal believes that sustainability and cost effectiveness of any development activities related to the communities can be insured only through active participation and capacity development of the local people and the local institutions. The philosophy of this organization primarily is to promote human development, social justice and peace.
USC Nepal feels that the strength is in unity. It, therefore, always likes to works in partnership, trust and mutual understanding. Networking and making the issues of the poor and deprived as a common concern among the likeminded organizations is the usual phenomena of this organization. In this context, USC Nepal also is always conscious in transparency, accountability and information sharing.
While selecting the project areas and the project activities, USC Nepal always keeps in mind the above concerns and it does so while selecting the partners too. USC Nepal always likes to provide the de-facto ownership of any project either under implementation or completed in its coordination to the beneficiaries. In this connection USC Nepal feel pleasure to be recognized simply as a facilitator andor a mediator.
